About Ear Surgery
Large, misshapen, or disproportionate ears can hinder a person's cosmetic appearance and detract from the rest of their facial features. Dr. Robert Chiu is board certified in both facial plastic and reconstructive surgery as well as head and neck surgery, making him highly qualified to address any facial concerns of his Pittsburgh, PA patients. During an otoplasty (ear surgery) procedure, Dr. Chiu can reshape the ears by pinning them back and removing any excess tissue or skin to transform their overall appearance. Each patient will have the opportunity to consult with our plastic surgeon before their operation to decide on the desired shape and the needed surgical techniques to achieve their goals. This surgery is commonly performed on children as young as 5 – 6 years of age, but it can also be administered successfully to adults of all ages. Dr. Chiu invites potential candidates to schedule a consultation at Today's Cosmetic Surgery to learn more.

"I’ve had nothing but great experiences at Today’s Cosmetic Surgey. Dr. Chiu and Sara are professional, compassionate, and experts at what they do. I have been getting Juvederm injections in my lips there for almost 2 years. My lips ALWAYS look amazing, natural, and just the right amount of full. I was very nervous when I went in for my first time because there are so many horror stories of lip injections. However, my lips have exceeded my expectations every time and Dr. Chiu is truly an artist. I would recommend him to anyone!"- C.P. / Google / Nov 19, 2017
"Doctor Chiu has helped both my mom and I and he is hands down the BEST!!! We highly recommend him."- G.D. / Google / Nov 05, 2018
"I had a perfect experience with rhinoplasty from Dr. Chiu. The results were very conservative and natural, exactly as I wanted. I am living with the best possible outcome of a surgery that can be very risky as far as results. Not to mention, the recovery post-surgery was much easier than expected: no bruising, no pain, and just a few days off to recover from the anesthesia. I would recommend anyone interested in getting a nose job to see Dr. Chiu first! Detailed examples, great advice. Thrilled!"- H. / Healthgrades / Oct 03, 2018
"Perfection! - At age 65 I had enough of the droopy upper eyelids! The right was even worse then the left. Consulted my local doctors and was told that I was a good candidate for blepharoplasty. I was warned by my personal physician of the recovery and how I would look right after the procedure with bruising, swelling, etc... Dr. Chiu was recommended as one of the best for the LEAST amount of pain, etc......"- P. / RealSelf / Aug 09, 2018
"Amazing natural results! Dr. Chiu practices with precision and perfection. A perfect balance between art and science. Would not trust anyone else with the same level of confidence."- V.V. / Yelp / Jul 17, 2018
What to Expect
Otoplasty is an outpatient procedure that normally requires only local anesthesia--younger patients usually do better with anesthesia administered. Small incisions will be made around the ears to allow our surgeon better access to the cartilage. Cartilage can then be manipulated through removal, reshaping, and reforming to repair the ears for an improved, more symmetrical look. Excess skin from the ear can also be removed if needed. Ear surgery is commonly used to pin back protruding ears, repair earlobes, reshape, and resize to provide natural-looking results. The length of the surgery depends on the technique and the condition of the patient's ears.
Following ear surgery, the ears will be dressed to provide protection. The dressing will remain in place for around 5-7 days for children and less for adults. There’s some mild pain or discomfort associated with otoplasty, and patients should expect to experience some swelling. It’s crucial that pediatric patients not touch or bother their ears while they are healing. Results are long standing and should provide years of positive benefits for patients.
