About Ear Surgery
Large, misshapen, or disproportionate ears can hinder a person's cosmetic appearance and detract from the rest of their facial features. Dr. Robert Chiu is board certified in both facial plastic and reconstructive surgery as well as head and neck surgery, making him highly qualified to address any facial concerns of his Pittsburgh, PA patients. During an otoplasty (ear surgery) procedure, Dr. Chiu can reshape the ears by pinning them back and removing any excess tissue or skin to transform their overall appearance. Each patient will have the opportunity to consult with our plastic surgeon before their operation to decide on the desired shape and the needed surgical techniques to achieve their goals. This surgery is commonly performed on children as young as 5 – 6 years of age, but it can also be administered successfully to adults of all ages. Dr. Chiu invites potential candidates to schedule a consultation at Today's Cosmetic Surgery to learn more.

"I’ve had nothing but great experiences at Today’s Cosmetic Surgey. Dr. Chiu and Sara are professional, compassionate, and experts at what they do. I have been getting Juvederm injections in my lips there for almost 2 years. My lips ALWAYS look amazing, natural, and just the right amount of full. I was very nervous when I went in for my first time because there are so many horror stories of lip injections. However, my lips have exceeded my expectations every time and Dr. Chiu is truly an artist. I would recommend him to anyone!"- C.P. / Google / Nov 19, 2017
"Dr. Chiu is gifted, knowledgeable and experienced. I try to refer anyone to him who is considering any cosmetic procedure bc I've seen his results and the results of those who have received services from other professionals. I always think to myself "if only they went to Dr. Chiu." His goal is to keep his patients looking natural and refreshed and I believe he succeeds at this each time!! Sara, his wife, works at his office and is so wonderful and friendly! I will be a life long patient of Dr. Chiu!"- E.H. / Yelp / Jun 29, 2018
"If you want a doctor who will look at you and be honest on what you need but then honest at what you don’t need, this is your guy. He is amazing and a complete professional. I had filler put in my nose 2 times (a year apart) and a little bit in my lips. They look and feel fabulous! I am so happy with the results and I would recommend Dr Chiu to anyone and everyone. His wife, Sara works with him in the office and she is such a sweetheart and a pleasure to deal with. A wonderful comforting environment. Go see Dr Chiu!"- H.F. / Google / May 31, 2018

What to Expect
Otoplasty is an outpatient procedure that normally requires only local anesthesia--younger patients usually do better with anesthesia administered. Small incisions will be made around the ears to allow our surgeon better access to the cartilage. Cartilage can then be manipulated through removal, reshaping, and reforming to repair the ears for an improved, more symmetrical look. Excess skin from the ear can also be removed if needed. Ear surgery is commonly used to pin back protruding ears, repair earlobes, reshape, and resize to provide natural-looking results. The length of the surgery depends on the technique and the condition of the patient's ears.
Following ear surgery, the ears will be dressed to provide protection. The dressing will remain in place for around 5-7 days for children and less for adults. There’s some mild pain or discomfort associated with otoplasty, and patients should expect to experience some swelling. It’s crucial that pediatric patients not touch or bother their ears while they are healing. Results are long standing and should provide years of positive benefits for patients.
