About Brow Lift Surgery

Over time, your eyebrows may become droopy and the skin around the brows and forehead can begin to sag and become wrinkled. With a brow lift (or forehead lift), the brow can be lifted to a more youthful position, and the excess skin and sagging can be removed. Our double board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Robert Chiu, can lift and reshape the brows and the soft tissues of your upper face to achieve a more contoured and youthful look. Dr. Chiu strives for rejuvenating results with little downtime and scarring for his Pittsburgh, PA patients. Schedule a consultation at Today's Cosmetic Surgery to discuss all of the options and determine if a brow lift could be the right method to brighten your appearance.

Ideal Candidates

The best candidates for brow lift surgery:

  • Heavy and droopy eyebrows
  • Do not have excess eyelid skin
  • Have redundant forehead skin and deep creases
  • Want a long-lasting solution
  • Are not able to get adequate brow lift from nonsurgical treatments

What To Expect

Brow lift surgeries are performed as an outpatient surgery at an accredited hospital/facility in the Pittsburgh, PA area, with the patient under IV sedation or general anesthesia. For brow surgery, incisions are placed in low visibility areas, such as the hair, hairline or occasionally in other areas like the eyebrow. The most common brow lift techniques are the open brow lift, lateral temporal brow lift, limited incision brow lift, or endoscopic brow lift, which will be chosen based on the patient's goals and their individual features. Once the incisions are made, Dr. Chiu will remove any excess skin, then smooth and re-position the muscles and soft tissue to reduce wrinkles and lines while elevating the eyebrows to an appropriate level.

Anticipated Results

Brow lift surgery usually takes about 1.5-2 hours, and once the patient has been cleared by our surgeon, they may be taken home by a responsible adult to recover at home. In Dr. Chiu's hands, most patients take 7-10 days to recover after a brow lift, and they can resume most normal activities in 2 weeks. For the first days after the surgery, patients should expect swelling and some temporary bruising, discomfort, tightness, and numbness. Dr. Chiu will talk to each patient about what they need to do during their recovery and provide tips for a speedy recovery. Patients will need to return for a follow-up appointment within 1 week to have their sutures removed and so their healing progress can be checked. While visible improvements can be seen immediately, the final results of the brow lift are usually seen about 3 – 6 months after the surgery.

Look Refreshed

Many patients fear that a brow lift will leave them looking overly surprised, unnaturally wide-eyed, or like they have obviously had plastic surgery. Our board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Chiu, with experience in brow lift surgery and an aesthetic eye, will focus on creating a more youthful, natural-looking appearance that refreshes the eye and brow. Together with Dr. Chiu, our patients can decide how dramatic or how subtle they want the results to be. After brow lift surgery, patients will look more awake, more alert, and more like the age they feel.
