About Thread Lifts
The thread lift, sometimes called feather lift or 'lunchtime lift', is a minimally-invasive alternative to a surgical facelift (or minilift) for patients who are currently foregoing surgery or are unable to have cosmetic surgery due to their health restrictions. During your consultation at our Today's Cosmetic Surgery office in Pittsburgh, PA, double board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Robert Chiu, who is experienced in the art of facelifts and facial plastic surgery, will determine if you are a good candidate for the Silhouette Instalift or Nova Threads, two threadlifts utilizing new technology employing absorbable sutures to lift and contour the mid and lower face and neck. Attached to the fine threads are tiny unidirectional or bidirectional cones/attachments that lift and tighten the skin while simultaneously causing inflammation, which helps to stimulate collagen growth over time. Due to the noninvasive nature of the procedure, the patient will not need to be administered anesthesia. This is performed as an outpatient procedure at our office in Pittsburgh, PA, and we encourage you to schedule a consultation with us today.
Ideal Candidates
The best candidates for a thread lift are:
- Patients who are experiencing wrinkled, loose, or sagging skin.
- Patients who wish to contour their facial appearance and are not candidates for surgery.
- Patients who seek complementary treatment to other nonsurgical procedures such as dermal fillers and botox.

What to Expect
During a thread lift procedure, entrance and exit points are marked, and a needle with the absorbable thread is placed in the treatment area. The skin is then tightened by pulling the thread in the desired direction. This is performed as a minor procedure in our office. Patients will be awake during the procedure. A thread lift typically takes about 1 hour depending on the area of the face being lifted. Patients can return to work usually within 3 days after the procedure and should allow about 2 weeks before resuming physical activities.
Anticipated Results
Thread lifts can yield visible results directly after the procedure. The area of treatment will present a more contoured look for the patient. Results will vary from patient to patient, but can last up to 18 months. Additional threads may need to be used after the initial procedure to maintain results. Thread lifts combined with other nonsurgical procedures including dermal fillers and botox may achieve optimal results.
Present a More Contoured Face
If you have loose, wrinkled, or drooping skin, then a thread lift can be an effective, longer-lasting way to achieve a firmer, more contoured look. Thread lifts are great for patients who are looking for something minimally invasive and nonsurgical. We invite you to schedule a private consultation at our Pittsburgh, PA office today to learn more about the procedure.
